I have been greatly saddened by the fate of the National Museum of Baghdad. Any museum looting is a tragic occurence but sacking of this one-of-a-kind storehouse is barbaric indeed. It quite literally housed some of the oldest human objects ever found. The specialness of that cannot be underestimated. As those who know me personally can attest, I don't get angry very often but in this case, I am indeed angry. I'm angry that the U.S. Marines protected the oil ministry but they did not deem it necessary to protect the world's cultural heritage. This is everyone's history not just the Iraqi's.
LOST FOREVER: The National Museum of Baghdad
Update: Yahoo has a slide show with some pictures.
