I had the humbling experience of trying to scan in some prints last night. I feel somewhat antiquated using a film camera these days and print scanning is the price I pay for being a luddite.
Over the past year, I've gone ahead and asked for a PhotoCD whenever I've had film developed. But for some reason, last week, when I needed to develop some film, I decided that if I did the scanning myself I'd get better results. Big mistake! Last night was an absolute fiasco. Who would've thought that getting a decent scan would've been so difficult. Frankly, I don't remember it being this difficult when I first installed my scanner but maybe I'm just forgetful. I hadn't felt this frustrated with technology in a long, long time. Nothing I tried seem to make things better. I felt like the guy in an old IBM ad who couldn't get his document to print. So it is with great frustration that I added two new albums to my image gallery. The prints aren't nearly as bad as the scans make them look. Really! This will have to be a lesson to me for trying to save a buck by not getting PhotoCDs made.
Tomorrow I shall pack up my scanner and put it away. There's clearly no need for me to have it hooked up to my PC on a permanent basis.
