A new report full of data called the Iran Census Report has recently been posted on the website of the National Iranian American Council. It is, "a study detailing the relative size of the Iranian-American community in each Congressional district vis-à-vis the size of other communities." It's worth a look. After a quick perusal of its analysis I tend to agree with the conclusion that the 2000 U.S. Census underestimated the numbers of Iranian Americans in California. 159,016 seems to small to me. I'd have guessed somewhere above 250,000. I'm also not surprised that District 30 of West Los Angeles, that of Representative Henry Waxman, has the largest population of Iranians within a Congressional district with 35,547 individuals(5.557%). Similarly, it comes as no surprise that Nancy Pelosi's District 8, my district, has a very small perctengage(0.373%) of Iranian Americans residing within it. This confirms my long time suspicion that Iranians tend avoid urban areas and are more comfortable living in suburban settings. More on that at a later date.
